Supernova SN2004et in NGC 6946

In the afternoon of September 29. 2004, I received a message via the Norwegian Astronomical Society's mailing list that a new bright (mag 12.8) Supernova had been detected in the galaxy NGC 6946, i.e. at RA 20:35:25.4, DEC +60:07:17.6 (J2000.0).

As the sky was clear, I rushed out to take an image, and the same evening (19:41 UT), I posted the following message on the QCUIAG Yahoo mailing list:
http://qcuiag-archive.technoir.org/2004/msg20734.html

This spawned a rather active period of intense supernova observations by QCUIAG members. My preliminary identification of the supernova (image above) was quickly confirmed (notice I don't claim to have discovered anything!! The supernova was discovered by Stefano Moretti), see http://www.supernovae.net/sn2004/sn2004et.html.

Incredibly, several QCUIAG members managed to measure the magnitude of the supernova with excellent agreement: Mag 12.7. Notice especially
Tom How's observations of SN2004et
HG Lindberg's observations of SN2004et
Dave Nash's observations of SN2004et
