- wxAstroCapture
- A cross platform Windows/linux capture program. Developed together with Martin Burri.
- SolarSimulator (="Sim1") - Simulates solar system barycenter location by year.
- SolarSimulator2 (="Sim2") - Simulates barycenter/planet orientations/flares.
- Solar System 3D Gravitator
- A cross platform Windows/Linux 3D gravity simulator of our solar system.
Windows Astro Software I have written
- ImageTOOLSca
- A FITS file viewer and image processing application.
Supports also DSLR raw file formats.
- LxGuideStar
- Long exposure webcam autoguiding
- MTSca
- A PC GOTO and Autoguiding/PEC program for the MTS-3 telescope controller.
- AviRaw
- A program to decode and convert AVIs captured with RAW modified webcams
- K3FakeLog
- Generate fake K3 log files.
- FitsCast
- FITS file webcasting. or: how to use a professional CCD camera as a webcam
- RxPec
- A small, but very useful utility that can extract alignment data from
Registax
project files and generate an MS Excel .csv file for easy visualisation
of your mounts periodic error.
- AstroZip
- A small, but useful utility to simplify the task of creating zip files
for large volumes of AVI files.
- AstroAlign
- An experimental program I wrote to see if I could correct for atmospheric chromatic aberration in a meaningful way. This program was largely forgotten,
but suddenly became popular during the Mars opposition 2003, since Mars was so low over the
horizon. I am thinking of creating a better version if I get some time.
Other software I use - K3CCDTools - The very best program for long exposure webcam capture and processing (supports long exposure modified Philips webcams). Also includes a fantastic "Planetary Wizard"
for processing planetary images. Written by Peter Katreniak (thanks Peter!). Spend some time
with K3CCDTools and you will not regret it. You may find my
K3CCDTools Tutorial
useful for deep sky image processing.
- Registax - An excellent free program for image processing. Written by Cor Berrevoets who has invested an enourmous amount of work into developing the program. I have been lucky enough to be allowed on the test team!
- IRIS
- A very advanced (but free) program for image manipulation, image acquisition and autoguiding.
I use it mainly together with MTSca to train the PEC, but I have also done some pretty impressive
deconvolution work with this program.
- NiteView
- NiteView is a small program which will shift your Windows display to dark reds and grays
to minimize the light radiated from the display into your eyes. NiteView can also hide desktop
icons and taskbar.
- at32 Comedy Webcam
- A very nice (and free) little program that can be used for webcasts. I used this program during
the May 7, 2003 Mercury transit, the May 31, 2003 Solar eclipse and the Nov 08-09, 2003 Lunar eclipse.
It was a big success. The at32 comedy webcam program is recommended.
- iMerge - Fantastic and free mosaic program by Jon Grove. Make a Moon mosaic in 3 minutes without borders!
- AVIDark
- Another free "must have" program from Jon Grove. This one does very clever dark frame processing.
- PolarFinder
- A clever, and free, little program by Jason Dale. It helps you polar align your GEM in 2 minutes.
- TMPGenc
- A very nice and free program to make MPEGs from AVIs
- Neat Image - Effective noise reduction program (not free)
- Cartes du Ciel - Free program to draw sky charts. Very comprehensive.
- Skymap Pro
- User friendly (but not free) sky charts program.
- Photoshop
- A famous, but strange image processing program. Very expensive, lots of features that work. The layer features
are probably unmatched in other programs.
software I don't use anymore...
... but feel too sentimental about to remove from this list - VEGA - A super image capture program written specifically for astro purposes by Colin Bownes.
- AstroStack - The original astro stacking freeware, now slightly outdated but still useful. AstroStack has some essential tools in order to load and combine a set of pictures (from an AVI video or a sequence of bitmaps) and make it into a detailed and noise free image.
- AVI2BMP - Extremely useful for evaluating single images in AVI videos, and for extracting images to BMP format.
