Mercury

This page presents my images from the Mercury transit of the Sun May 7, 2003. The transit took place between 07:13 Norwegian summertime (UT+2 hours), and ended at 12:31. I imaged Mercury as part of the live webcast set up by http://www.astronomy.no/.

Above is shown a transit overview image, Mercury made first contact with the Sun at left and moved towards the right. More of my images from the webcast is found here.

The images were captured using an 80mm f5 refractor with solar filter, IRB-filter and Philips ToUcam 740K webcam.

(103 KB) Video showing the final 18 minutes of the transit.
Typical webcast image. Mercury is the small black dot near the top. The large spot in the middle is a Sun-spot.
